Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Regular Campus Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 10:15 PM
Saturday, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Extended Access Hours:
Monday - Friday until 1:00 AM
Saturday - 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM

During Business Hours, the front Lobby door will remain open; no ID Card is required to enter. ID Cards will be required, however, to enter through both side doors (near Faculty Lounge and ASB Office) and to enter labs with restricted access.

During Regular Campus Hours (Monday — Friday, before 9:00 AM and after 6:00 PM and on Saturday) ID Cards are required to enter through all entrance doors. All currently registered students, faculty, and staff will have ID Card access.

During Extended Access Hours, only those students, faculty, and staff with approved Access Forms on file will have ID Card access to the building and designated labs. Please enter through the front Lobby door. The Lobby door and both side doors may be used as exits. All other doors are alarmed.

Extended Access

Student Access to the building after regular Campus Hours is given at the discretion of the College for legitimate academic purposes. Extended Access must be authorized by the Dean of the College, an ASB officer, the Dean of Student Life, the VP of Finance, and the Director of IT. Request for Building Access Forms may be obtained in the Campus Service Center. Access Forms must be completed and returned to IT before Extended Access will be granted. Access is granted only for the current semester; a new form must be completed each semester.

Part Time Faculty may receive Extended Access at the request of the Dean of the College. Staff who require extended access or access to a lab should have their supervisor send an email request to the Director of IT.

No one under the age of 18 may be in the building after Regular Campus Hours.

Responsibilities of Extended Access

When granted Extended Access to the building, it is each person’s responsibility to maintain a safe and secure environment. While in the building, everyone should pay attention to who is in the building, what is going on, report any damage or misconduct and contact emergency personnel should a crisis situation arise. Before Extended Access is granted, students must attend Emergency Training with the Dean of Student Life. No one should be in the building alone after Regular Campus Hours.

At 10:15 PM, the closing staff member will check ID cards and ask anyone without Extended Access to exit the building. Failure to comply will result in sanctions under the Cogswell Judicial Policy.

Anyone in the building after Regular Campus Hours must wear or display their ID Card at all times.

Guest Policy

Guests are defined as anyone who is not a Cogswell student, faculty member, or staff (for example a spouse, friend, alumni, family member, etc.) If you are hosting a guest in the building, you are expected to be responsible for the actions of your guests. Inappropriate behavior or violations of College policies by either party may result in the loss of Extended Access, revoking of guest privileges and may result in sanctions under the Cogswell Judicial Policy.

Each person may host one guest at a time during Extended Campus Hours and must accompany their guest at all times. Since guests have not complete security training, they are not considered a second person in the building — there must be another student, faculty or staff member in the building with you as well.

Please have all guests sign the guest book on the front desk.

No one under the age of 18 may be in the building after Regular Campus Hours.

Lost ID Card

Lost ID Cards must be reported to the Director of IT within 24 hours. A $10 replacement fee must be paid before a new ID Card will be issued.

Extended Access Policy Violations

The following actions are examples of violations of this policy:

  • Failure to wear/show ID Card at all times while in the building.
  • Loaning ID Card.
  • Altering of Cards, damaging, tampering with or vandalizing any College lock or security device.
  • Propping of doors (this will trigger an alarm and the police will respond.)
  • Admitting unauthorized persons into building.
  • Remaining in the building alone after Regular Campus Hours.
  • Failure to return a Card when requested or upon leaving the College.
  • Failure to report a lost Card within 24 hours.

Persons in violation of this policy will lose Extended Access for the remainder of the semester and may face sanctions as outlined in the Student Handbook. Students will also be held accountable to the Student Code of Conduct and all College policies while in the building.
